Orthodox Prayer for One who Travels by Land

O Lord Jesus Christ our God, the true and living way, Who didst deign to journey with Thy foster-father Joseph and Thine all-immaculate Virgin Mother into Egypt, and didst accompany Luke and Cleopas to Emmaus: We humbly pray Thee, O all-holy Master, by Thy grace to accompany now [name]. And send unto him, as unto Thy servant Tobias, a guardian angel, guiding, preserving and delivering him from every evil assault of enemies, both visible and invisible; and directing him unto the fulfillment of Thy commandments; and preserving him in peace, happiness, and health; and bringing him back again in safety and tranquility. And grant that he may fulfill all of his good intentions unto Thy good pleasure, favorable to Thy glory. For Thine it is to show mercy and to save us, and unto Thee we ascribe glory; together with Thy Father Who is from everlasting and Thine all-holy and good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

If a priest is present, he will then take the holy Cross and give it to the traveler to kiss and sprinkle him with holy water, saying:

May the Lord bless thee out of Zion; and so shalt thou behold the good things of Jerusalem all the days of thy life, and may He direct thy journey in peace, unto the glory of His holy name. Amen.

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy upon us and save us. Amen.
